Temerloh, a town situated in Pahang with a population of around 160,000 people. The name may not ring a bell to many people, but it is the second largest town in Pahang after Kuantan and is more or less smack in the centre of Peninsular Malaysia .

Located in Kampung Bangau, a small humble village situated near the Pahang River. Teratak Patin Bangau is one of the “hidden gems” for Patin Tempoyak and one of the local favourites. The Teratak Patin Bangau is on the spicy side and if you are into spicy, you will enjoy every slurp of its fermented gravy. Recommend coming early and before lunch hour as this place is a popular lunch spot for locals and parking is limited. Warning: Your vehicle blocked by other vehicles in the parking area.

Kancil Raja Patin

Located in Kampung Bangau, this restaurant is situated beside the Pahang river. Kancil Raja Patin is also a hidden gem for Patin Tempoyak. Kancil Raja Patin gravy has a unique fragrance resulting from the “daun kesom” recipe. Besides tempoyak, they also serve fried ikan patin, fried salted fish and fried chicken which all go quite well with rice. This restaurant is popular during the weekends, some customers may wait half hour to get seated.

Restoran Claypot Patin Tempoyak is the only restaurant that serves Ikan Patin Tempoyak in a Claypot which helps with heat retention during your meal. Their gravy is spicier than the other restaurants. Besides Patin Tempoyak, their Patin Asam Pedas is one of their best dishes. If you are up to it, challenge yourself to the “spicy till numb” taste and ask to “tambah pedas” (make it spicier). Be aware of “burning feeling in your stomach” after having the “tambah pedas”.
